To round up our Kindness Day SG celebrations, the Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) held an appreciation dinner with more than 220 attendees on 28 May 2016 at The Berlin Bar, CHIJMES to thank all our ground-up movements, corporate partners and schools for their efforts and support. It was a wonderful evening filled with lively entertainment, delicious food and an enthusiastic awards ceremony. Our Guest-of-Honour, Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, together with Mr Koh Poh Tiong, Chairman of SKM Council and Dr William Wan, General Secretary of SKM, commenced the event by unveiling a daisy art installation, which is a symbol of collective appreciation for all the efforts for Kindness Day SG across the month of May.

We showcased an opening video highlighting our KDSG events, followed by welcome speeches by Mr Koh, Dr Wan and Ms Grace Fu, which warmed our grateful hearts. Certificates of recognition were also presented to our 9 newly inducted GUMs – Familiar Strangers, It’sRainingRaincoats, Peter Draw, Roti for Homies, Sama Sama, Sin Yong, Strangers of the Night, The M.A.D. Team and U Cares – as they join the Kindred Spirit Circle, to affirm and honour their efforts in creating a kinder society. Following that, one of our GUMs, Sin Yong aka Syros, captivated the audience with his enthralling Kindness Magic Performance! Not forgetting Mediacorp artiste Zhang Zhen Huan (张振寰) who also graced the event, as he shared some lovely stories and experiences of the kindness he has received and encountered in Singapore.

Time certainly flies when we are having fun, with our guests leaving in high spirits as we closed the night. However, kindness and appreciation aren’t just about a month or day. We hope to encourage even more projects which inspire more kindness in Singapore!

Our KDSG art installation will be showcased at CHIJMES until the 5th of June, so do come down and visit with your family and friends! Alternatively, you could use the Digital Daisies Photo App to share some happiness and kindness around, and don’t forget to hashtag #KindnessDaySG too.

Remember – Kindness, It’s Up to Us. Happy Kindness Day everyone!
