Expectant mothers standing in public transport without commuters offering their seats has been prevalent in today’s society. To help alleviate this, the Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) created a “Baby in Tummy” button badge in support of expecting mothers to wear and for the public to better understand the needs of expectant mothers. The badge aims to remove the mental barrier- to give up my seat or not?

SKM recently collaborated with home-grown brand of the popular Baby Market and Baby World Fairs, Mummys Market, to understand on how mums-to- be perceive about the issue of not being able to find a seat on public transport.

According to the survey that Mummys Market and SKM conducted with 565 mothers, 40.9% out of the 565 responses indicated that they would be keen to utilize some kind of emblem to communicate their need for a seat. 38.9% of expectant mothers indicated that they would prefer a pin-badge for them to wear to convey the message, other than just having the current reserved seating.

Additionally, the survey also showed that 46.3% pregnant ladies were afraid to ask for a seat and 73.8% responded that they will not ask for seats if their tummy is not showing. Mums-to- be felt uneasy and embarrassed to be asking the public to give up their seat, as it is not a common occurrence in Singapore.

Expecting mothers, get your “Baby in Tummy” badge this weekend at the Baby Market Fair!
